DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
The experimental nature of this film lies in its use of a non-linear and sensory approach to cinema in order to convey the internal emotional process of disordered eating. Unlike most films which show the symptoms of eating disorders, the film is more concerned with portraying the physical sensations of obsession, compulsion, dissociation, and lack of control that occur in the binge-purge cycle. Repetition, disjointed images, distorted sounds, inverted colors, and body movements characterize the film in such a way that the viewer is placed in a broken mental state instead of being an outsider. The influence of avant-garde films by Maya Deren and Stan Brakhage informs this film’s use of experimental approaches.

SYNOPSIS
In this project, I explore the process of translating the experiences associated with disordered eating into an experimental film form. Using the aesthetics of Maya Deren, the cinema of perception of Stan Brakhage, as well as structuralism, I look at the role of repetition, distortion, and escalation of sensations in portraying emotions that cannot be easily communicated using the conventional representational language of film. I, besonderes, looked into the use of digital editing tools such as looping, layering, color reversal, and afterimages in creating an experience for the viewer as opposed to telling a story. Another aspect of the project involves the adoption of an ethical approach whereby harmful behavior is not directly portrayed but sensation and internal pressure.
