DIRECTOR’S STATEMENT
This project was inspired by my grandmother’s dementia and the descriptions of it given to me by my grandfather. It was filmed with a Canon Powershot SX620, a camera that both of them in part funded for me four years ago, and it was through using this hardware that I aimed to give the project a further degree of intimacy. I wanted to foreground the people, not just the illness, and I wanted to do this by contrasting the visuals against the audio: the former provides the dementia-impacted perspective, while the audio provides insight into some memories that she and my grandfather have shared. The brighter segments were filmed in the area around their old house in Hethersett, Norfolk, while the present-day jumble was shot entirely within their house and garden.This film was produced as part of the Experimental Production module.
SYNOPSIS
