“My Name Is..” (2026) is a sculptural installation formed of objects produced from mixed found materials in combination with sound elements. The work observes materialised childhood memories. Using the space to engulf the viewers’ perception, it aims to resurface their own childhood experiences and engage these emotions in the experience of the work.
The materials used to construct the individual sculptures – pipe cleaners, ribbon, pom poms, for example – are all commonly associated with childhood experiences. Here, I have reappropriated them as materials for sculpture, exaggerating their tactile properties with a maximalist aesthetic.
Audio captured from my own childhood emphasises this connection to the past, and distortion makes the sound both universal and visceral to the viewer. Suspending the sculptures in the space allows for dynamic interaction with the audiences’ view, encouraging further investigation and increased emotional involvement.
