Through the use of fabric, my work explores the conflicted thoughts I hold around childbirth and motherhood. The folds and fluidity of the painted fabric evoke the female body, its warmth suggesting both enclosure and care. Bedsheets recur throughout my imagery as a central material, while the bed itself becomes a site of cyclical significance: our birthplace, the place where we spend a third of our lives, and often where we die or are laid to rest. I set this free-flowing imagery against the image of a head veiled in cloth, conveying a sense of suffocation shaped by societal expectations of motherhood as well as by my own personal anxieties.
