My painting practice focuses on using the traditional medium of oil paint on canvas and wood to materialise various forms of “still” images - still-life, photographs to commemorate a forever-stagnant moment in the transience of life and stills from videos and films.

Deeply inspired by the process and artwork of Kristoffer Zetterstrand, the artist behind many of the original paintings in the popular video game Minecraft, over the course of three years I developed my own visual language and ideas for what I want to communicate through my painting practice. Many of my paintings are born in the digital landscape of Blender, a 3D-modelling software, where a variety of objects are placed together, often to act out a story, a narrative, or a memory. I categorise this genre of paintings as still-life, as the subjects (mostly cut-outs of my own ink drawings, historical paintings and pixelated plants) are arranged in specific ways in relation to one another to convey a deeper meaning, much like the still-life paintings from the Dutch Golden Age in the 17th century, but revamped for the digital age of the 21st century.

The other genre of my work consists of “pre-made” stills, be that my own photography or images that already exist online, which are waiting for me to find them and bring them into the corporeal realm.
