And For What? explores what happens when we over-commit to an action that is
fundamentally pointless. Through endurance and repetition, I dedicate hours to a self-imposed task with no practical outcome. My work centres itself on the act of
commitment and continuation, rather than the focus be on goals, achievements and
purpose. Heavily inspired by the Fluxus movement, my work embraces the absurdity of
repetitive actions, highlighting how they originate in determination and obsession while
slowly deteriorating into fatigue and exhaustion. As time passes, the boundaries
between the two begin to blur and through memorisation, continuous labour and self-imposed rules, ordinary actions are pushed beyond necessity, allowing the
commitment itself to become the artwork. Ultimately, through a live performance,
these actions culminate into a public display of endurance.
