Mixed media textiles installation
My work aims to serve as a metaphorical map of the lives of the people who contributed to it while also acting as a statement against overconsumption in the art and fashion world. Through the use of textiles - specifically second-hand clothing - my work explores the idea that clothing carries memory, emotion and traces of the person it once belonged to. Each piece of fabric holds lived experiences, weather that is through the embroidery on them or the signs of wear, they all display unique identity. Although the materials are different, what inspired me about the use of second-hand materials was the ability to create new from old, in a society where overconsumption is everywhere, this piece is a celebration of reusing, reminiscing on memory and not giving up on things that already belong to us.
