Acrylic on canvas
Using oil and acrylic paint, I create pieces which reflect microscopic imagery of ovarian cysts and endometriosis. The work strives to divert attention to areas of female anatomy that remain under-researched and widely misunderstood. My paintings combine realism and abstract styles, mirroring both the physical reality of these conditions and the uncertainty that surrounds them. A variety of textures, and vibrant, extended colour palettes combine to create a chaotic energy which mimics the intense stress many affected individuals experience. This chaos is brought on by a lack of knowledge from the victims, and the medicine. By transforming scientific imagery into contemporary painting, I aim to encourage dialogue, increase the visibility of women's health issues, and highlight the need for greater awareness and research.
