My painting practice resides in the realm of the canvas as much as it resides beyond the canvas. I consider ways to expand painting beyond a constrained surface, often implementing found objects and constructive elements to create dialogues between my pieces.

Through these paintings I am investigating the idea of ‘lost spaces’, the sort of spaces that may only linger in memories and cannot be accessed physically. These spaces can emerge as dreams, nostalgia, and grief and are unique to all individuals. My process involves the application of transparent glazes, then selectively removing and reworking to build a depth of colour and a history of mark-making. Whilst line and colour dictate my compositions, this layering of thin washes and sweeping movement of brushstrokes creates a hallucinatory haze. Strong architectural lines contrast with soft blurred edges (or boundaries) extending beyond the canvas to create a more immersive space; echoing the sharp banister railings, doorways, and other architectural elements.
